7.1.11. Ultimate Contingency

Should all other efforts fail, a mine must have the ability to be sealed off from a safe location. In the Australian context, remote sealing provisions are required on all surface entries that can be operated from a location so that no one is exposed to danger. There is also a requirement to have the ability to re-enter through an airlock.

The following diagram (Figure 11) provides a process map of a potential emergency response approach, integrating a number of the indicated requirements above.
