5.9. Others

It should be noted that China has developed and applied the longwall top coal caving system (LTCC), which is recognised as an attractive and potentially lower risk method (reduced labour intensity of mining and improved face stability) to maximise coal resource recovery. A first Australian application of such a technology has been established at the Austar mine in New South Wales. A number of Australian companies are currently planning LTCC operations in the near future. It is expected the LTCC technology will be further improved through its applications in Australia.
